HEP 100 Frequently Asked Questions

CREDIT ELIGIBILITY

How do I earn credit for this course?

To earn ASU credit for this course, you must:

Opt to upgrade to the Credit Eligible Track (Verify your identity) by:

Tuesday, October 19, at 7:00 UTC.

Successfully complete proctoring for the final exam.

Pass the course with a C or better (70% or higher).

Please refer to the Steps for Credit Eligibility page in the "Before the Course Begins" section for further details.

Please note that exams that fail the proctoring review will result in an assignment grade of 0. A student earning an overall grade of a C or higher who fails proctoring is not eligible for credit. If your proctored exam is marked suspicious, you have up to 75 days from when you completed the exam to appeal the decision. After that time, appeals will not be accepted or reviewed.

What is the Credit Eligible Track?

Upgrading to the Credit Eligible Track allows you to pursue ASU credit for this course. The university credit you earn by taking this course is 100% authentic, and you can apply it toward a college degree at ASU or any other institution.

To upgrade to the Credit Eligible Track, you will have to verify your identity. This lets us ensure that the academic credit you earn appears on your official ASU transcript.

You can complete the ID verification process by going to your course Dashboard and selecting the "Upgrade to Credit Eligible Track" option for Introduction to Health and Wellness and following the steps provided. You will be asked to take a photo of yourself and a valid photo ID using a webcam.

Reminder: The deadline to upgrade to the Credit Eligible Track is Tuesday, October 19, at 7:00 UTC.

FINAL EXAM AND PROCTORING

Do I have to take the proctored final exam?

Students who are on the Credit Eligible Track must take the proctored final exam if they wish to be eligible for ASU credit and will have 3 hours to complete it.

You are still welcome to take the final exam without proctoring if you are not pursuing credit for the course. Proctoring is a requirement for credit eligibility.

Why does the final exam have to be proctored for credit eligibility?

Proctoring ensures that you, and only you, are the one taking the exam and that you are following the exam protocols set forth in the course. The proctoring software records your actions during your exam, and a member of the proctoring service team reviews the recording afterward. This is done to ensure academic integrity for students on the Credit Eligibility Track.

All students on the Credit Eligibility Track are required to take a proctored final exam. Please review the proctored exam rules and requirements carefully, and be sure to take the Practice Proctored Exam to ensure that you have no technical issues with the proctoring software.

Please note that exams that fail the proctoring review will result in an assignment grade of 0. A student earning an overall grade of a C or higher who fails proctoring is not eligible for credit.

How do I set up the exam proctoring?

Please follow the Practice Proctored Exam Instructions (found in the "Before the Course Begins" section) to download and install the proctoring software. You will also need to verify your identity with photos of yourself, your government-issued ID, and your test environment.

Please be aware that it can take up to 3 days to complete the ID verification for the proctoring software, so be sure to go through the setup process more than 3 days before the final exam is due!

Note: the proctoring software is not compatible with Windows Vista, Chromebooks, tablets, or mobile devices.

Do I have to take the Practice Proctored Exam?

The Practice Proctored Exam is not required, but we strongly encourage all Credit Eligible students to take it well in advance of the final. The purpose of this activity is to ensure that any technical issues with your computer and the proctoring software are resolved before you take the real proctored exam, and to familiarize yourself with the proctoring process.

Note: The Practice Proctored Exam will not confirm the suitability of your test environment. Make sure to review the test environment guidelines in the proctored exam rules and requirements.

Is the Practice Proctored Exam graded?

No, the Practice Proctored Exam will not be graded or reviewed. The goal is simply to ensure that the software runs properly on your computer. This is why it’s important to take the Practice Proctored Exam well before the final exam is due. You may take it as many times as you like.

What if I need technical support for the proctoring software?

First, check the Discussion forum to see if other students have had similar issues and have provided solutions.

If you continue to have problems:

  1. Contact our proctoring partner, Software Secure (a division of PSI Services), at 1-855-436-2039 for US and Canada, and 1-617-658-2879 for international residents (Outside US and Canada).
  2. Send an email to ulcourses@asu.edu and provide your Software Secure ticket number and issue details.

You must contact both Software Secure/PSI Services and the course support team to ensure resolution. Please put “Problem with proctored exam” in the subject line. Again, be sure to provide as much information as possible.

Finally, please post your issue on the Discussion forum so that other students can see and learn from your experiences.

What is the format of the final exam?

This final exam will consist of 40 multiple choice questions covering weeks 4-7. The final is a closed book exam. You will have one attempt per question, and 3 hours to complete the exam.

How do I prepare for the final exam?

1. If you’re on the Credit Eligibility track, set up the proctoring software and submit your ID verification. It could take up to 3 days to complete ID verification, so make sure to allow plenty of time for this!

2. Take the Practice Proctored Exam.

3. Use the Final Exam Study Guide to help you study and prepare for the test.

4. Familiarize yourself with the proctoring rules before taking the proctored final exam. These rules can also be found on the Final Exam Overview page.

REFLECTION BOARD (YELLOWDIG)

What is the Reflection Board?

Each week you will be required to participate in the Introduction to Health and Wellness Reflection Board on Yellowdig. You will receive credit for both posting your thoughts on a writing prompt based on that week’s course content and responding to other students’ posts. Yellowdig allows you to add images, videos, and audio, along with your text response, to express your ideas. The Reflection Board is a great opportunity to share ideas, suggestions, and support.

Important Note: The Reflection Board is not the place to post general questions about the course. Instead, you should use the Discussion forum to post general questions about course policies, due dates, or technical problems. You will only use the Reflection Board on Yellowdig to post the Reflection Board assignments listed in each week of the course.

How do I use the Reflection Board?

Please visit the Reflection Board tab for instructions on how to use the Reflection Board on Yellowdig to complete your Reflection Board assignments. There you will find Yellowdig Step-by-Step Directions and Yellowdig Reflection Board Schedule and Grading information.

Some quick tips:

  • Use a laptop or desktop computer. Chromebooks may not work.
  • Use Chrome as your web browser. Other web browsers may cause significant difficulty.
  • Always access Yellowdig from within the course site to ensure your points are recorded.
  • Do not copy and paste the weekly prompts as your responses or create duplicate posts. These will be deleted and any points awarded will be revoked.
  • Do not copy other students’ work, or copy from outside sources. These actions are violations of ASU's academic integrity policy, and points may be revoked as a result.
  • For technical assistance, contact support@yellowdig.com or click the blue help button located on the bottom right corner of your Introduction to Health and Wellness Reflection Board.

Your assignments will be graded on Yellowdig, and your Reflection Board course grade will be reflected weekly through the end of the course. Visit the Course Grading Information page (in the "Before the Course Begins" section) for further details about how your Yellowdig points affect your Current and Overall grades in the Progress tab.

Why is my Reflection Board grade in the Progress tab so low (or so high)?

Your Reflection Board grade on the Progress page will show as a total out of 175 points, so it will be low at the beginning of the course but will accumulate through your participation by the end of the course.

Due to the constraints of the learning platform, there can only be one Reflection Board bar on your Progress graph in this course. Every week, the Reflection Board bar will appear as 100% complete as long as you reach your Yellowdig points goal (30 points) for that week. If you do not reach your Yellowdig weekly points goal, then your Reflection Board bar will show a percentage less than 100%.

Why is the Week 1 Reflection Board assignment due a week earlier than the rest of Week 1’s course materials?

Unlike all other assignments, we are unable to extend the deadline for the Week 1 Reflection Board because of the way points are calculated and transferred from Yellowdig to edX. There are 210 points available for Yellowdig, but you can only earn a maximum of 175. The additional points were added to provide a buffer for students who join late or miss a week for some reason.

Also, please keep in mind that each week of the Reflection Board is only a small part of your overall grade (take a look at the syllabus for a grade breakdown). Completing assignments regularly and, more importantly, studying for the midterm and final exams (combined are 55% of your grade) should work out well for you.

What should I do if Yellowdig won’t launch?

1) Make sure you're using the Chrome web browser. Other web browsers may cause significant difficulty.

2) Clear your browser cookies.

3) Enable cookies for yellowdig.com and the Yellowdig.app, and make sure you're not in Incognito mode.

4) Disable all browser extensions (especially ad blockers and grammar checkers).

5) Try accessing Yellowdig from a different device, if another device is readily available.

DISCUSSION FORUM

What is the difference between the Discussion forum and the Reflection Board?

The Reflection Board is for responding to the weekly assignment prompts and sharing your thoughts and ideas on those topics with your classmates. The Discussion forum is for general questions related to course content, due dates, or technical issues you've experienced.

How do I use the Discussion forum?

1. The best way to access the Discussion forum is by clicking on the Discussion tab at the top of the screen.

2. Click "All Discussions" and look to see if there is a pinned post that addresses your question. Pinned posts always appear at the top of the screen and include information on common concerns.

  • If there is a pinned post on the topic you're interested in, but it didn't answer your question, please post a response within that thread. This creates a simple and easy way to keep all relevant information in one place.
  • If there isn't a pinned post, scroll through the posts or type general search terms like "final" in the search box in the upper right of the screen to see if other student(s) have posted on the topic already and if there is a possible solution provided.

3. If your question or comment has not been addressed yet, then click "Add a post." Be sure to mark it as a Question if you'd like a response from the instructor or TA.

4. To see if anyone has responded to your post, search by your username to identify all of the threads you've been involved in, and the responses will appear there.

Some quick tips:

  • Do not post questions about grades until the deadline for the assignment or exam has passed.
  • All questions, including those related to grades, need to be asked via the Discussion forum. There is no ability to directly email instructors or TAs with questions in this course.
  • Review course materials and previous Discussion posts before posting a question. If the information exists somewhere else within the course, we will direct you to the correct place.
  • The TA and instructor are content experts and have only a basic understanding of the technical side of the course. See the pinned post about technical support and other platform (Yellowdig, Cerego, Software Secure) specific resources for the correct contact information.

TECHNICAL SUPPORT

How do I find support for technical issues?

As noted earlier, The TA and instructor are content experts and have only a basic understanding of the technical side of the course. For general tech support and contact information, please see the pinned Discussion post on technical concerns. This post provides contact information for questions related to the course itself, proctoring, Cerego/Content Mastery, and Yellowdig/Reflection Board.

There are also separate pinned posts with more specific information on the Practice Proctored Exam, final exam proctoring, and Yellowdig.
